On 13 August, at Palacio San Martín, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino opened the 36th Annual General Meeting of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP). This important event gathers the authorities of the national Antarctic programmes across the world, including observers and experts, to discuss and promote best practices in the management of and support for scientific research.
The event, held on the same year Argentina celebrates 120 years of presence in Antarctica, is a key platform for State Parties to share knowledge and experiences, with a view to strengthening international cooperation. The topics discussed included the improvement of logistic operations, the management of environmental impact, and the promotion of interdisciplinary scientific research. In addition, the participants discussed different strategies to ensure sustainability and the protection of the Antarctic ecosystem in the context of climate change.
Argentina, as host of this important meeting, reaffirms its commitment to scientific research and the preservation of the Antarctic continent. During this three-day event, plenary sessions and group sessions with experts on various Antarctic topics were held.
