The textile industry is the second most polluting in the world. One of the most critical processes in environmental terms is fabric dyeing, responsible for 20% of global drinking water pollution and approximately 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Dyeing a single kilogram of fabric requires between 30 and 50 liters of water, and producing one kilogram of synthetic pigment requires 1,000 liters of water, 10 kg of chemicals, and 100 kg of petroleum. This process is not only resource-intensive but also releases toxic substances that affect aquatic ecosystems and human health. Furthermore, the current process requires high temperatures and specialized equipment, limiting the adoption of sustainable alternatives.
