Nine out of ten industries in Latin America record their production… on paper spreadsheets! Yes, you read that right. Not in Excel, not in a system, but on physical sheets that are then, hours or days later, manually digitized to consolidate the information and generate reports. For any industrialist, this is the biggest pain point: not being able to manage their company in real time, based on reliable data. The result is that the industry wastes money on hunches or decisions based on incomplete or erroneous data. Trying to be competitive without measuring everything that happens in your manufacturing is like trying to lose weight without tracking what you eat or weighing yourself regularly. Let's think about other areas: can you imagine going to the bank to make a transfer by signing a piece of paper? Or traveling using printed maps instead of GPS? So why do so many factories continue to operate as if digitalization didn't exist? The answer is clear: traditional data capture technology in manufacturing has historically been inaccessible to most, not only because of its cost, but also because of the complexity of implementation and the need for highly qualified personnel to put it into practice. I know this from experience: I was part of a 20-person team that led the digitization of one of Argentina's largest plants, Tenaris Siderca. If everyone who wanted to use online banking had to develop the banking application from scratch, how many people would actually be able to operate from home? The challenge is enormous. The manufacturing industry in Latin America represents 16% of the region's GDP and moves hundreds of billions of dollars. However, it faces a critical gap: the abundance of operational data does not translate into effective strategic decisions. Every machine, process, and operation generates information that, when correctly interpreted, can transform a company's competitiveness. But that information is rarely used to its full potential.
