Gut health is a fundamental pillar of well-being, longevity, and overall health. However, supplements and bioactive compounds designed to improve it often fail to reach their intended site—the intestinal cells—intact and active. Currently, most functional ingredients degrade during digestion, have low bioavailability, and limited efficacy, necessitating higher doses, increasing product costs, and hindering innovation in gut health. Current delivery technologies (such as capsules, liposomes, or nanoparticles) do not fully address this challenge: they fail to precisely target compounds to intestinal cells, present stability, scalability, and biocompatibility issues, and are not easily adaptable to different ingredients or formulations. Consequently, companies in the supplement, functional food, and gut biotechnology sectors face a structural limitation: they cannot harness the true potential of the bioactives they develop or use.
