On the last day of his tour to Gulf countries, Foreign Minister Faurie met in Doha with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, with whom he discussed the potential of bilateral economic and trade relations, as well as broad cooperation in various areas.
Faurie once again expressed its gratitude to the Crown Prince of Qatar for his visit to Argentina last October, during which he met President Macri and signed agreements on agricultural, educational and technological innovation matters, among others.
Furthermore, Faurie held a working meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, with whom he reviewed progress on the bilateral agenda.
After the Argentine Senate's approval of the Bilateral Investment Treaty and the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, both countries hope to continue working towards the facilitation of bilateral trade and Qatari investment flows. During Faurie's stay, Qatari companies expressed their interest in priority areas such as infrastructure (energy, ports, airports), hospitality, agriculture, mining and telecommunications.
Yesterday, several Argentine businesspeople joined Faurie in a business and investment meeting, which enabled the exchange of proposals and projects with Qatari counterparts. The Argentine business delegation was comprised of Tenaris, PwC Argentina, NorthBaires, YPF and Valmont, among others. On behalf of Qatar, the meeting was attended by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Qatar Development Fund (QDF), as well as companies from the gas transportation, maritime logistics, oil and food sectors.
