The 44th Meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Convention on Conservation and Development of Fishery Resources in the Border Sections of the Paraná and Paraguay Rivers was held in Asunción, Paraguay, on 31 October.
The Undersecretary for Tourism of the province of Corrientes, representatives from the province of Formosa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship participated on behalf of Argentina.
Issues discussed at the meeting included ideas aimed at achieving a sustainable use of fishery resources in the waters surrounding the Apipé Grande Island with a view to integrating residents on both margins of the Parana River through the promotion of concrete benefits derived from the development of touristic and responsible exploitation of fishery resources.
In this regard, Argentina and Paraguay agreed to engage in dialogue with a view to preparing a protocol on coexistence and use of fishert resources aimed at addressing needs, facilitating procedures and improving the quality of life of Argentine and Paraguayan citizens of the islands near Apipé and Yacyretá Islands.
Finally, representatives from the province of Corrientes highlighted its substantial level of investments being made in the field of fishing tourism, as well as the sustained transition process into subsistence fishing and the tangible positive effect this has on the quality of life of fishermen.
