176/16

Yesterday, Argentine President Mauricio Macri received the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, within the framework of his visit to Argentina from 5 to 8 June.

During their meeting, Macri and Djukanovic reviewed issues related to their bilateral relations, exchanged views on matters of a multilateral nature, and specially highlighted the strong cultural and friendship ties that exist between the two countries by reason of the large Montenegrin community residing in Argentina.

In this regard, Prime Minister Djukanovic discussed with President Macri the First Congress of Montenegrin Immigrants in Latin America, whose opening ceremony took place on Sunday 5 June at the Alvear Art Hotel. The Congress was attended by representatives from Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, United States and Croatia. The Congress provided the framework for the election of the authorities of the Association of Montenegrin Communities in Latin America, which will have its headquarters in the city of Buenos Aires.

Furthermore, during Djukanovic’s visit, the two countries entered into an Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation at the Palacio San Martín. The Agreement was signed, for the Argentine Republic, by the Secretary for International Economic Relations, María Cristina Boldorini and, for Montenegro, by the Minister of Economy, Vladimir Kavaric, who travelled to Argentina especially for this purpose.

Both parties agreed that the abovementioned Agreement, which establishes an institutional channel for dialogue, will contribute to further strengthening their bilateral economic relations by increasing trade and investment opportunities and by identifying economic cooperation areas of common interest.
