The White Helmets Commission of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, with members of the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, has formed an operating team to provide support for the social adaptation and integration of refugee families entering Argentina in the context of the Syria Programme, offering assistance to sponsors, whether individuals or organizations.
Today, Monday 7 November at 3:45 p.m., at the Palacio San Martín, Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra will preside over the opening of the training process for the team comprised of professionals from these three bodies—experts in psychosocial assistance to refugees.
The inter-disciplinary team will serve as an inter-cultural mediator, providing a channel for fluent dialogue and interaction with Syrian families, and identifying their needs and special requirements according to age, gender and abilities. The purpose of the team, as part of the Syria Programme, is to reach the greatest possible number of beneficiaries.
Its work will be structured around a number of issues, such as preparation for departure to Argentina, immediate or initial care (offering support to Programme beneficiaries at the time of their arrival to facilitate the welcome process), and the social integration process of Programme beneficiaries.
Some of the tasks to be carried out by the team are to provide humanitarian aid and to detect issues in order to arbitrate the means to ensure access to social rights, based on articulation with public and private institutions.
The implementation of this project to offer guidance and assistance for social adaptation provides for the organization of training sessions for professionals and volunteers, for data surveying, and for a social approach to psychosocial assistance, as well as for the following-up, monitoring and assessment of the entire welcome process.
