On 26 and 27 April, the OECD Working Group on Transnational Bribery conducted a high-level visit to Argentina, as part of the evaluation process of the implementation of the OECD Anti-bribery Convention. The Argentine Republic is currently at Phase 3bis of this evaluation process.
During this High-level Visit, the members of the Working Group's delegation met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Susana Malcorra; the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, German Garavano; the Secretary for Public Ethics, Transparency and Fight against Corruption, Laura Alonso; the Deputy Minister of Justice, Santiago Otamendi; the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Gustavo Zlauvinen; and officials of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Legislative and Judicial Branches, with whom the working group discussed the work to be carried out by the different Government offices in order to achieve full implementation of the Convention.
In this regard, the Argentine authorities explained the different measures that will be adopted to achieve this goal and referred to the bills on the responsibility of legal persons and the definition of foreign public official and jurisdiction, among others. On the other hand, they reiterated their firm commitment to combat corruption and, in particular, transnational bribery. Likewise, the authorities recalled that, since President Macri took office, the fight against corruption has become one of the pillars of the Argentine Government’s policy.
The visit concluded at noon on Wednesday 27 with a closing event held at the Palacio San Martín and addresses by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
