Father Opeka, a missionary in Africa for 50 years whose work rescued over half a million people from poverty, spoke today to hundreds of people at the Palacio San Martin.
Argentine priest Pedro Opeka spoke today at the Palacio San Martin about his work in Madagascar to hundreds of people gathered in the Libertador Room, the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium and the Plaza Seca of the Foreign Ministry
The Secretary of Worship, Santiago de Estrada, introduced and welcomed Father Opeka to the Argentine Foreign Ministry and highlighted the fact that thousands of people have received his loving support in Madagascar. Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi honoured him with a plaque in recognition of his humanitarian work in the African country.
During the talk on "Father Opeka's work in Madagascar", the priest spoke with journalist and author Jesús María Silveyra. The event was attended by the diplomatic corps accredited to our country, provincial and national authorities, and family and friends of the missionary, who is the son of Slovenian immigrants, was born in the province of Buenos Aires and is known in Africa and Europe as "God's bricklayer".
The talk, which extended for half an hour, included testimonies of two Malagasy women, who are witnesses to the Father's work in Madagascar. Opeka ended his talk with a blessing to all attendants at the Libertador Room, the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium and the Plaza Seca of the Ministry.
