Within the context of Argentina's commitment to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the "Training Course on the Identification of Strategic Goods" was held at the Argentine Foreign Service Institute on 9-11 October.
The training course aims to improve capabilities for identifying and detecting goods and equipment related to sensitive and dual-use technologies, and to promote coordination among agencies with a view to enhancing the operation of the national system for the control of sensitive and dual-use exports.
The course was taught by trainers from member agencies of the National Commission for Sensitive Exports and War Material (CONCESYMB): the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, the National Commission for Space Activities, the Argentine Customs, the Institute of Scientific Research for Defence (CITEDEF), which reports to the Ministry of Defence, and the Executive Secretariat of CONCESYMB.
As in the first course of 2018 held last April, government officials of the Ministry of Security and the Argentine Customs received training in the fields of nuclear technology, chemistry, biology and missiles, as well as on Multilateral Regimes and the National System for Exports Control which are aimed at preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The course included exercises on the identification of controlled goods.
The Undersecretary for Foreign Policy of the Foreign Ministry and the National Director for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Security were in charge of closing the course. The Undersecretary for Foreign Policy stressed the urgent need for States to redouble their efforts to prevent governmental or non-governmental actors with proliferation intentions from accessing this type of weapons.
