Foreign Minister Diana Mondino received at San Martin Palace, site of Argentina’s Foreign Ministry, her counterpart from the Republic of San Marino, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications, Mr. Luca Beccari.

After conveying her gratitude for Secretary Beccari’s visit, Minister Mondino celebrated the recent opening of San Marino’s Embassy in our country -the first diplomatic representation San Marino in Latin America-, a fact that she considered another example of the excellent relationship between both countries.

Secretary Beccari recalled that it was his third visit to our country, highlighting the importance of San Marino’s immigration to Argentina. Next, the two officials exchanged views on the most relevant issues of the bilateral relationship with a view to strengthening it. In this regard, they agreed on the importance of promoting commerce and tourism and highlighted other areas with potential to deepen bilateral cooperation, such as the promotion of education and science and technology.

Before the end of the meeting, Minister Mondino expressed to Beccari her recognition for San Marino’s accession to the Antarctic Treaty, whose Permanent Secretariat headquarters are located in Buenos Aires, and extended an invitation to the authorities of that country to attend the Higher Education Fair that will take place Puerto Iguazú in March.

Also participating in the meeting were Giovanni Maria D'Avossa, Ambassador of San Marino to Argentina; Giulia Suzzi Valli, Director of Political and Diplomatic Affairs of San Marino; and Minister Ramiro Hernán Velloso, Undersecretary of Promotion of Exports, Investments, Education, Science and Culture in Argentina’s Foreign Ministry.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between Argentina and San Marino dates back to 1994. Since then, both countries have developed a very positive relationship, based on the fact that Argentina is home to the third San Marino diaspora in the world, with resident associations in Córdoba, Jujuy, Mendoza, Río Negro, Pergamino and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
