Statement on the Election in Venezuela

Monday, 29 July 2024
Information for the Press N°:
382/24

The Governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay express deep concern over the conduct of the presidential election in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and demand a thorough review of the results with the presence of independent election observers to guarantee respect for the will of the people of Venezuela, who participated massively and peacefully. The vote count should be transparent and the results should not raise any doubts.

Our Governments will call for an emergency meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS) Permanent Council in order to issue a resolution upholding the popular will, in line with the Democratic Charter and the fundamental principles of democracy in our region.
