Foreign Minister Mondino received Wiesenthal Center Director for Latin America, Ariel Gelblung, at the Foreign Ministry. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Leopoldo Sahores and other staff members were present as well.
Mondino and Gelblung analyzed the situation of growing antisemitism at regional and global level, especially since the attack perpetrated by Hamas last 7 October. In this respect, they agreed on the need to strongly condemn the scourge of antisemitism, both at the international level, through Human Rights organizations, and at the local level, by means of education and awareness-raising activities.
In addition, the Foreign Minister and the Wiesenthal Center Director for Latin America shared information and views on the activities of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), of which Argentina is the only Latin American member.
In this regard, Mondino stressed her willingness—and that of all the diplomatic staff under her charge—to support the activities conducted by the Wiesenthal Center, while reiterating Argentina’s firm commitment to the fight against antisemitism and every other form of racism, xenophobia or discrimination, and to work for the promotion of Holocaust remembrance and the prevention of genocide, particularly in the current international context.
For his part, Ariel Gelblung thanked the Foreign Minister for her willingness to help and stressed the importance of joint work between the Wiesenthal Center and the Foreign Ministry regarding the promotion of harmony in diversity and of the fight against racism, xenophobia and antisemitism. In connection with this, he underscored Argentina’s prominent role at global level in the fight against antisemitism.
