Foreign Minister Diana Mondino held a working meeting at the San Martín Palace with Benjamin Cardin, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee of the United States of America.
Senator Cardin heads a delegation of legislators including Representatives Steve Cohen, Daniel Goldman, Brad Schneider, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Steny Hoyer, who are visiting our country with the objective of deepening bilateral relations and participating in the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the terrorist attack against the headquarters of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA).
The meeting at the San Martín Palace, with the participation of the United States ambassador, Marc Stanley, contributed to continuing the visit made by Foreign Minister Mondino to Washington D.C. on May 17 and to the several contacts and visits that have taken place since last December among officials of the Executive and Legislative Branches of the two countries.
During the meeting, various issues included in our strategic alliance with the United States were addressed, from our deep economic and security ties to the promotion of democratic values and institutions. The main aspects discussed included exchanges on Argentina's key role in advancing regional and global security priorities; in supporting democratic governance; and against the erosion of the rule of law and human rights in the region. Both delegations also discussed the increase in trade and investment between the two countries.
