As further evidence of Argentina's commitment to disarmament and non-proliferation, Mariela Fogante, an Argentine diplomat with vast experience in the field, took over the presidency of the Expert Group on the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms.
The goal of the Expert Group is to review the operation and to make recommendations for the enhancement of the Register of Conventional Arms, created in 1991 to promote transparency and information sharing on conventional arms transfer.
The appointment of Minister Mariela Fogante as president of the Group, the first woman to hold this position in the field of conventional arms, reflects the professionalism of Argentine officials and acknowledges the traditional leadership of our country, which actively participates in fora which strengthen the architecture of international security.
