Further to the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino received the Canadian Ambassador to our country, Reid Douglas Sirrs, in order to deepen the bilateral relationship, based on the potential of both countries in different areas.

The meeting served as an occasion to review the extensive work agenda between both countries, in particular Canadian investments in Argentina’s mining sector after the recent announcement of investment in copper, gold and silver mines and the special interest in lithium and critical minerals. In this regard, both Ministers referred to Argentina’s participation in the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention that takes place in Toronto, Canada, from March 3 to 6.

Furthermore, Minister Mondino and Ambassador Sirrs talked about Argentine-Canadian bilateral cooperation on nuclear issues; the renegotiation of the Air Transport Agreement; and cooperation actions on Arctic and Antarctic issues.

Finally, among other topics on the regional, multilateral and global agenda, both officials addressed issues related to the negotiation of the MERCOSUR-Canada Agreement, the Alliance for the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) and the situation in Ukraine.
