By invitation of the Argentine Republic, Mexico will co-chair the Working Group of the Equal Rights Coalition focused on LGBTI inclusion in relation to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Argentina and the United Kingdom are the current co-chairs of the Coalition.
The ERC is an initiative launched in 2016 that promotes universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and centres on the rights of the LGBTI world population. It consists of 42 Member States that work with civil society organisations and international organisms. The ERC works through four Working Groups, each focused on a different theme: national laws and policies; diplomacy; funding and donors; and the SDGs. Mexico will co-chair the latter, which will strengthen Latin America’s presence in decision-making processes and the promotion of actions of the Coalition, and it will reaffirm its strong commitment towards the protection and promotion of the rights of LGBTI persons.
Argentina congratulates Mexico on taking part in the Equal Rights Coalition and expresses its satisfaction at the opportunity to continue to work together on the promotion and protection of the rights of LGBTI persons.
