The Ambassadors of Mercosur Member and Associate States met with Foreign Ministry officials at the Palacio San Martín to watch the live broadcast of the presidents’ virtual meeting on the 30th anniversary of the bloc. They then attended a working lunch with Foreign Minister Felipe Solá and the launching ceremony of the Southern Cone Regional Women Mediators’ Network.
The ceremony, headed by Alberto Fernández at the Bicentenary Museum, was held in the Libertador Room and was attended by the ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, José de Almeida Salgado, the ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Carlos Enciso, and the chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Paraguay, Juan Antonio Aranda Cuevas. The ambassadors of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Ramiro Tapia, and of the Republic of Chile, Nicolás Monckeberg Díaz, were also present.
After that, the representatives had a working lunch with Foreign Minister Felipe Solá to discuss the 30th anniversary of Mercosur, whose presidency pro tempore is currently held by Argentina.
On behalf of the Foreign Ministry, the ceremony was attended by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Pablo Tettamanti; the Chief of the Private Office of the Foreign Ministry, Guillermo Justo Chaves; the Undersecretary for Foreign Policy, Gustavo Dzugala; the Undersecretary for Latin America, Juan Lavalle; Undersecretary for Mercosur and International Economic Negotiations, Rossan Surballe; the Undersecretary for Multilateral and Bilateral Economic Negotiations, Carola Ramón; and the Permanent Representative to Mercosur and ALADI, Mariano Kestelboim.
During the meeting, the Southern Cone Regional Women Mediators’ Network was launched, and its Foundation Certificate was signed by the Minister in the presence of the Brazilian and Chilean ambassadors, the chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Paraguay and the Uruguayan Minister Counsellor, Gimena Hernández Guerrero. This is a pioneering project in Latin America and the Caribbean promoted by the full members of Mercosur and by Chile, that seeks to showcase the intensive work undertaken by women to prevent conflicts in their communities and to enhance the social structure.
