MERCOSUR

MERCOSUR is Argentina's platform to open up to the world, working for integration and with the goal of eradicating poverty and inequality.

At the regional level, Argentina's foreign policy aims at prioritizing MERCOSUR as a strategic forum for regional integration. MERCOSUR has contributed to the consolidation of peace and democracy in the region. At the economic level, it has dynamized trade and promoted the internationalization of national companies. In order to continue contributing to the economic and social development of Argentina, this integration project must stimulate insertion into the global economy, increase participation in trade and international investment flows, and strengthen the credibility, reliability and predictability of Argentina and the region.

In the last two years, MERCOSUR has returned to its foundational goals and reinvigorated its internal agenda on the integration process. Thus, progress has been made on the elimination of intra-MERCOSUR barriers to trade, and legal frameworks have been established for public procurement, cooperation and investment facilitation. Moreover, since the creation of the Communication and Information Unit of MERCOSUR (UCIM) in July 2017, work has been carried out on a Strategic Plan to publicize the integration process and its benefits for the citizens of the region.

In order to respond to the regional and global challenges posed by the economy, an Action Plan is being prepared to develop a Digital Agenda, and initiatives on regulatory consistency and the facilitation of trade are underway in order to improve the competitiveness of the private sector.

All of this is aimed at strengthening MERCOSUR in order to consolidate it as a platform for international integration that generates benefits through seamless integration with different world economic regions, fostering the adoption of good business and management practices, the creation of jobs and an improvement in the quality of life of citizens.
